Mobile Amusement Parks

In Japan there is a curious automotive fad called 'Dekotora'.

Inspired in part by Gundams, the 1975 Japanese film 'Truck Guys', and too much spare time, Dekotora is a new way of approaching the aesthetically stagnant form of the semi truck. These art trucks strongly resemble circus facades, and have a similar garish urgency and cartoon allure.

What will we be affixing neon lights to next? Mini vans? Our pets? Wear them as jewelry, or transplant them under our skin as blinking tattoos, like the 'subdermals' of Tad Williams' Otherland series?

  1. The one on the left in the second-to-last picture is my favorite. It gives the illusion that these accretions actually *do* something!

  2. I like that one too. Your idea of accretions is interesting, it makes me think that "a rolling semi-truck gathers much J-pop paraphernalia." It's like automotive katamari damacy!
